Free Recipe! Falafel & Hummus – a match made in Pitta!

With Health and fitness being on everyone’s mind in 2021 we are happy to share with you our Falafel & Hummus – Free Recipe.

Our Falafel recipe

Falafel is a fried patty made with chickpeas and spices. It originates from the Middle East. Falafel is usually served with pickled red onions and wrapped in pitta bread. I would say a sandwich with a twist!

You must use dried chickpeas; you won’t get the texture from tinned!


250g Dried chickpeas, soaked in cold water overnight. Rinse and blend to a rough chopped texture

Remove half of the mixture and set aside.

Add to the remaining mix:

½ teaspoon of bicarb of soda

1 teaspoon of Cumin, Sumac and Cayenne pepper

3 Garlic cloves

1 Onion

1 Leek

1 Celery stick

1 Chilli

1 handful each of fresh coriander and parsley

Blend until it is a soft paste.

Mix the paste and chopped chickpea mixture together.

Add 100g of Gram Flour and mix well, forming the mixture into patties – approximately 16 – 20 depending on the size you require.

Shallow fry the patties without overcrowding the pan, turning when they are brown.

We enjoy them with flatbreads or in pitta bread with humus and pickled red onion.

We have a lovely recipe for Hummus.

Hummus is a creamy dip from the Middle East. It has chickpeas, tahini garlic and olive oil and is known as a good, healthy dish. Garlic and olive oil are two of the best-known healthy spices along with the chickpeas will give a tasty, healthy side dish or dip.



1 x 400g tin of Chickpeas, thoroughly rinsed.

50 ml Olive oil

2 cloves of Garlic

Zest and juice from 1 lemon

2 tablespoons of Tahini

If it looks to think, use small amounts of cold water and carry on blending until you get the consistency you prefer

Place in serving bowl and drizzle with olive oil and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.
